You can be sure that the delete-able files are then from your normal top-level. Then sort by the results folder (which acts on the locked reference lines), so that the reference AND normal matches rise to the top. I don't think this will work reliably for more than one reference and one normal though as the results may be a bit complicated to interpret without making mistakes, so in my testing I'm proceeding with caution and making the top-level folder selection simple and not intermixing reference and normal sub-folders. Matches between reference AND reference are not returned. So the time taken is always a function of the total number of files. I'd suspect (without looking at the code) that a checksum or signature is generated for every file (using whatever comparison method), regardless of location, and then the results are then compared by signature before sorting into ref vs normal. The fact that they then might also match the normal side is a side-effect. After all, it has to check every file in the normal side to see if it has a match on the ref side. The function suits for my case.įinally, I chose the 2nd one, Auslogics Duplicate File Finder to check the duplicate files and the 4th one, AllDup to check the files without duplicates.I don't think the scanning process can be shortened. In my case, I have different folders storing almost the same photos but not sure which folders contain the outstanding files which do not appear in other folders.
